Politics and Power: What Black America Must Understand Right Now

The Intersection of Power and Politics

Politics, at its core, is about power: who has it, who exercises it, and whose interests it serves. I bring a sharp, unapologetic perspective to this conversation on the show. Communities that do not have economic power will never fully benefit from political power.

This is not cynicism. It is strategy.

What Real Political Power Looks Like

Economic Leverage

The communities with the most political influence are those with consolidated economic power. Business owners, investors, and employers have leverage that individual voters do not. Build economically, and your political voice multiplies.

Collective Action

Division is the enemy of progress. When communities fragment over personalities, social media feuds, and minor differences, the real power brokers win. Unity around shared interests such as education, safety, and economic opportunity is the only path to real change.

Local Politics First

National politics gets the headlines, but local politics runs your daily life. Your school board, city council, and mayor determine what your neighborhood looks like. Showing up locally is showing up for your community.

Building Independent Institutions

Media. Education. Banks. Healthcare. When communities own and control their own institutions, they stop begging at the table and start setting it.

The Trap to Avoid

Emotional voting: choosing leaders based on personality, rhetoric, or tribal loyalty rather than policy outcomes and track records. That is how communities stay stuck. Vote for results. Demand accountability. Withdraw support when it is not earned.

What We Must Do

• Support Black-owned businesses unapologetically
• Invest in financial literacy across generations
• Run for office or support those who do
• Build institutions that serve our communities independently
